When you’re on a ski vacation and feeling weary after a long day of plummeting down the piste, you’ll regret not setting aside a small corner of your luggage for essential oils if you opted to leave them at home.

In the battle of one suitcase versus a mound of bulky ski gear, it’s easy to underestimate how much you count on oils once you’re used to them in your everyday life.  But I learned the hard way a long time ago that it’s better to be short one pair of socks than missing your ‘go to’ essential oils.

Remember to tighten the lids snugly without overtightening. And double or triple ziplock-bag them to be on the safe side.  If you have enough spare fluid capacity in your carry-on allowance, keep them with you.  Even better.

Here’s our guide to handy oils when going skiing.  By the way, the Young Living Everyday Oils Collection has 10 oils in 5mL sizes, including the single oils listed below.  These sizes are awesome when travelling.

Peppermint single essential oil

  • inhale to bring clarity and revive tired thoughts
  • smooth a few drops over tired muscles and feet
  • add 1-2 drops to a basin of warm water for a refreshing foot bath
  • use a tiny smidge to freshen breath and enliven your mind during those inevitable James Bond moments

Deep Relief Roll-on

  • indispensable for relaxing tired and tight spots on the run

Lemon single essential oil

  • rub a drop between your fingers and palms to freshen hands on the run
  • add 1-2 drops to a cup of hot water with honey for a comforting drink
  • if your ski instructor has deflated your spirits, inhaling lemon will uplift them again (put a drop in your palms and cup over your nose or inhale straight from the bottle)
  • if you cop a scratch or scrape, a drop will help cleanse and care for the skin

Lavender single essential oil

  • add to moisturiser to boost the benefits of your skin care
  • smooth a few drops onto tired muscles (combines beautifully with peppermint)
  • inhale to help with winding down and adapting to new sleep patterns
  • inhale to settle nerves
  • add 1-2 drops to a cup of warm water by the bedside in lieu of a travel diffuser

Breathe Again Roll-on

  • apply to scratches and scrapes for cleansing and skin care
  • rich in eucalyptus, comforting and warming when applied to the chest and inhaled
  • a quick roll on the soles of your feet and between your toes will keep your ski socks and boots fresh

Extras to consider

  • Your favourite ‘feel good’ oil blend that helps you stay upbeat and confident, or takes your excitement down one safety notch if you tend to overestimate your abilities.  For instance, these Young Living blends would be strong contenders: Valor™, Clarity™, Gathering™ and Harmony™
  • Young Living Lavaderm Cooling Mist 59mL for nurturing post-ski skin that’s been out in the sun and wind all day
  • Cinnamint Lip Balm to keep your lips kissable and put a protective beeswax barrier over skin where needed
  • Young Living V6™ Enhanced Vegetable Oil Complex or other carrier oil in a travel-size bottle to add to 1-2 drops lavender for a relaxing bath or massage, 1-2 drops peppermint for a relaxing massage, and to use au naturale to nurture your skin against cold, harsh elements

When choosing oils, please remember that not all oils are created equal.  Quality varies immensely, so please ensure you are choosing an exceptional brand with complete transparency from seed to seal, such as Young Living.  Discover why we love them so much in this short video.
