Selling house is a rollercoaster ride.  And we’re here to help you get through to the other end as enjoyably as you possibly can with more thrills than spills.

You might not think essential oils can help you with this process but once we’ve taken you through it from start to finish, I hope you’ll be a believer.

From cleaning your house or apartment from top to toe to setting an encouraging and inviting mood for open houses, we’ve got you covered every step of the way.

All the essential oils listed here are available from our supplier of choice – Young Living – because we’ve been using them for over 20 years and we know and love them.  In today’s world filled with petrochemicals and false promises, never has it been more important to check out the companies you’re buying from and ensure you can trust them.  We’ve done that with Young Living and you can see for yourself in this short video.

So let’s start from the beginning and kick things off by getting your home sparkling and fresh.

SPICE UP YOUR CLEANING in a NON-TOXIC WAY

Ditch the potentially harmful commercial cleaners and breathe easily throughout the entire process thanks to Young Living Thieves® Household Cleaner.  Don’t be fooled by its safe and natural side: it’s extremely tough on grime!   Its key ingredient is Thieves® essential oil blend which leaves a spicy-fresh scent in its wake, laden with eucalyptus, rosemary, clove, cinnamon bark and lemon.   We’ve also included a natty infographic below – easy!

All Purpose Cleaning

Add one cap of Thieves® Household Cleaner to three cups of water in a spray bottle for an effective and delicious-smelling all-purpose cleaning spray around your home.

Walls, architraves, skirting boards and trims

For painted walls, architraves and trims, see the All Purpose Cleaning mix above or follow the directions on the label to mix Thieves® Household Cleaner in a spray bottle of water for general all-purpose cleaning.  Test in an inconspicuous area first.

Spray onto a soft cloth or microfiber cloth and you’ll find it super-easy to tickle up those trims and tidy up the paintwork.  For tougher marks, try Thieves® Household Cleaner undiluted after testing it on an inconspicuous section first.  Put it onto a terry towelling washer – this has texture while still being fairly gentle – and gently rub at the marks.  Some could be beyond cleaning off but it works a treat on many of them. And if that doesn’t work, test Thieves® Spray on an inconspicuous area first then spray it directly onto the spot, holding a cloth below it so that it doesn’t run down the wall.  Gently work at it and see how you go.

For timber trims and timber furniture, add 5 drops of Young Living Citrus Fresh™ to ½ cup of olive oil and ½ capful of Thieves® Household Cleaner in a small bowl.  Apply evenly with a soft cloth.  Test in an inconspicuous place first.

Remember also to check for cobwebs and wipe light switches and door stops, plus light fittings and ceiling fans if they are able to be safely cleaned.

Bath and Shower

While you can use Thieves® Household Cleaner diluted in a spray bottle throughout your hard and tiled surfaces in the bathroom, shower and laundry, I love using it neat.  Just put the smallest squirt onto a sponge and you’ll get a lavish lather for your sink then proceed to the shower and tub with the same laden sponge – there’s ample coverage for the lot.  Rinse off then dry with a nice soft cloth – save up your old flannelette PJs and sheets and cut them up for purposes like this!  They absorb beautifully while being soft and gentle and they dry surfaces to an awesome finish.  The benefit of using the cleaner undiluted through this area is that when you rinse off, you’re flushing a more concentrated lot of cleaner through the drain holes and pipes of your home which helps to freshen up those areas, too.

For tubs needing extra TLC, apply a thick lather of Thieves® Household Cleaner and leave to sit for 15 minutes – it’s ok if it dries – then rinse off and be prepared for it to sparkle.  You can also try making a thick paste of Thieves® Household Cleaner with baking soda, apply with a soft cloth or sponge, allow to sit for 5 minutes then rinse clean.

Diffuse Thieves® essential oil blend in your bathrooms regularly and before open houses to infuse the air with a lovely freshness and help create an environment that’s distinctly unwelcoming to mould and mildew.  If you need to target any areas specifically for that, undiluted Thieves® Household Cleaner is a great one to try.

Toilet

Combine 1 cap of Thieves® Household Cleaner with one cup of water in a spray bottle and spritz the toilet bowl generously. Leave it sit for 15 minutes then go over with a toilet brush before flushing to rinse.  Use Thieves® Wipes for the exterior of the loo (not flushable), or you can spritz the exterior with the same spray as for the inside then wipe off with a small length of toilet paper which you can flush.  If you want to be a bit fancy for open houses, fold the end of the toilet paper hanging on your wall into a triangular point just like they do in hotels.

Windows and Mirrors

Combine 5 drops of Young Living Citrus Fresh™ essential oil blend with three cups of water, one teaspoon of white vinegar and one capful of Thieves® Household Cleaner in a spray bottle.  Spray glass and mirrors generously and wipe off with a lint-free cloth.  Here’s where those old flannie PJs come in handy yet again!

Floors

Add 1/8 cup of Thieves® Dish Soap (or a generous splash of Thieves® Household Cleaner) plus 1/8 cup of white vinegar to 4 litres of warm water in a bucket for mopping your hard floors.

For timber floors or floors with special manufacturer instructions, test in an inconspicuous area first.

Phew!  Now that we have your cleaning sorted, stay tuned for Part 2 where we get into the emotional ups and downs of selling your home and how essential oils have got you covered.

Essential oils are potent, so as always, please follow directions on the bottle and the usual guidelines for safe use of authentic essential oils.

Please ensure you are choosing a brand with complete transparency from seed to seal, such as Young Living.  You can learn in this short video why we only ever recommend and choose Young Living oils and love them so much!
