Has the ‘SNOOZE’ worn off your snooze button?

Does your phone alarm app automatically snooze itself because it knows you’ve already rolled over and gone back to sleep?

Put energising and uplifting essential oils in your diffuser before you go to bed, set the timer for 15 minutes before your alarm and you’ve found a great way to wake up with a positive and bright start to the day.

You’re probably only reading this if you’re a night owl wanting to become an early bird.  Genuine early birds need no coaxing to get out of bed.  They are almost annoying in their ability to wake and toss back the covers effortlessly where most of us at least need a few moments to compose ourselves for the day.

In the case of the latter: your timer, oils and diffuser are invaluable in your quest to become a morning person.

By setting the timer to go off automatically each morning, you’ll be inhaling a beautiful oil molecule-laden mist before you even wake up and it can prepare you for a bright-eyed and bushy-tailed emergence from your slumber.

The odour molecules of the essential oils will travel through your nostrils and meet the olfactory receptor cells.  These send an impulse to a pertinent part of the olfactory bulb which contains around 2,000 teensy weensy glomeruli. These glomeruli are like little radio towers that receive impulses from the olfactory receptors and it’s through this mechanism that we perceive many smells.  The olfactory bulb in turn sends impulses to other parts of the brain that govern all kinds of things including our sense of taste and the storage centre for our emotional memories, which is called the amygdala.  Pretty neat, hey!

By the time you wake up, you’ll be feeling nicely relaxed and able to switch off those sneaky voices that urge you to take another 5 minutes or lull you by saying there’s no pressing reason to get your fine self out of bed.  Those voices are self-defeating ones that have their own agenda, which is to keep you in your comfort zone and help resistance succeed.  Don’t let them have their way. (If you haven’t heard of ‘resistance’, head over to this post then read Steven Pressfield’s The War of Art.  You’ll start seeing your awesomely creative and elegant excuses in a very different light.)

Along with the wonderful benefits of essential oils thanks to their natural compounds, diffusing also produces negative ions and releases natural ozone, all of which helps you to feel a sense of well-being and “It’s amazing to be alive!”

When you wake up with that energised and upbeat feeling, it becomes a whole lot easier to toss back those sheets without thinking twice and get ready to make hay, even if the sun isn’t shining.

My favourite diffuser Wake Up essential oils for energising and positivity are these:

Rosemary and Lemon essential oils (equal quantities of each)  Both of these single oils are energising and refreshing; Lemon oil is cheerful and freshly-sweet and Rosemary is stimulating to the mind and invigorating.

Young Living Clarity™ essential oil blend is awesome for bringing clear thought with its fresh vitality.

It includes Basil, Cardamom, Rosemary, Peppermint, Coriander, Geranium, Bergamot, Lemon, Ylang Ylang, Jasmine, Roman Chamomile and Palmarosa.  BONUS TIP: choose this one if you’re waking up to an exam or study day.

Young Living En-R-Gee™ essential oil blend is bursting with vim and vigour and so energising, you’ll want to reach for it any time during the day when you’re feeling flat or wanting to raid the nearest snack dispensing machine.  Instead of snacking, inhale this and rub some into the backs of your legs to perk yourself up healthily and with zero calories.  It contains Rosemary, Juniper, Lemongrass, Nutmeg, Balsam Canada, Clove and Black Pepper – all of which are peppy and stimulating.

Young Living Motivation™ essential oil blend is ideal if you suspect you’re finding it hard to ‘up and at ‘em’ because you’re lacking direction and feeling uninspired.  Sometimes that can cause us to delay getting out of bed because we don’t feel a clear sense of what we want to achieve in our upcoming day.  Or we’re wanting to delay something we’re not overly keen on doing.  If this one resonates with you, try waking up to Motivation™ and let us know how you go.

young living transformation essential oilYoung Living Transformation™ essential oil blend is for when you want to pull out all the stops.  This beauty smells divine and was formulated especially to help you transform your life.  If sleeping in is a firmly entrenched habit and you really can’t kick it, starting your morning with Transformation™  is a powerfully supportive way to re-set yourself and get out of your own way.
