When you’ve been using essential oils for a long time, using oils and choosing oils becomes second nature.

But how do you get to that point?

I’ve loved using beautiful Young Living-sourced and distilled gifts of nature for over 20 years and rising.  While you can’t rush a good thing, I hope I can help you fast-track somewhat courtesy of my years of experimenting and learning.

Today, we’re giving you our Top 5 ways to learn how to choose and use essential oils for naturally supporting and fortifying your relaxation, happiness and well-being so you can take care of you and your family naturally to the best of your ability.

BUY A RELIABLE ESSENTIAL OILS REFERENCE BOOK

If there’s just one thing you need to do straight away, it’s to buy yourself a reliable essential oil reference book.  Read it from front to back, and look it up when there’s anything specific that you’re looking to manage or make better when it comes to your mind, body and spirit.

Don’t stress if you haven’t been referring to a book up until now.  You can’t really make a mistake when choosing an essential oil, as long as you’re being sensible and following the important guidelines for safe use of them.  But if you don’t have a guide and you’re flying blind, you might be choosing a ‘plumber’ oil when you really need a ‘motor mechanic’ oil!

Every essential oil has its own complex range of constituents that give it certain properties. Some are better for relaxation, some specialise more in cleaning, others are experts when it comes to focusing your attention and uplifting your spirits or winding up and down from strenuous activities and exercise. So the oil you choose won’t harm you at all when used properly, but it might not work as effectively for your specific needs as a different oil would have done.

Look them up, get to know them like a second language and you’ll be maximising your results from the oils you are using by choosing the ones best suited to the job.

You’ll also find plenty of wonderful research studies to dig into on the web and on sites like AIRASE (Association for the International Research of Aromatic Science and Education). While plenty of people enjoy choosing oils intuitively and energetically, working with chakras and vibrational modalities, essential oils are also a science.

Just a little side note: Please do not ask your Young Living sponsor to recommend oils for you.  We are all here to help you understand how to use and enjoy the products, how to help others enjoy them, and how to help people to join and order so they can enjoy them, too.  But our role is not to choose what’s best or appropriate for your needs.  We’ve all learned how to choose for ourselves by the same methods: reading, researching, listening to online trainings and participating in live trainings.  That’s what you need to do, too.  It’s worth it! (PS: Please get in touch with us here for our help with product use, joining and ordering and training.)

BE PATIENT AND CONSISTENT

Rome wasn’t built in a day, nor were the stagnations and grizzles, creaks, weariness, upsets and toxic build-ups that can accumulate in our spirits and bodies.

While we’re not going to put any kinds of limitations on your abilities and those of the natural solutions you’re using, it’s important to be patient and realistic about time frames and keep hanging in there.  Well-being is a journey.  We hope that you’ll be surprised and thrilled with your oils adventure and the speed of some outcomes.  But don’t put pressure on anything.  Stay positive, be consistent and be sure you are being generous enough with the quantities you’re using, too.  Young Living Acceptance™, Young Living Joy™ and Young Living Release™ are wonderful for keeping a good healthy balance of optimism, letting go of expectations and negativity.

EXPERIMENT (SAFELY!)

Yes, after just telling you to use a reference book, now I’m suggesting that you experiment!  (Always within safe usage guidelines, of course.)

But the key here is that you need to have your basic understanding of a good cross-section of oils first.  Once you do, then understand you might sometimes need to think laterally and creatively when choosing the ideal oil for a certain purpose.  If you’ve tried the obvious choice and been consistent (see above) with limited results, think of what might lie beneath.  Are you looking at the symptom of something which has a deeper root cause that a different oil could help with?  Do you experience certain upsetting feelings in particular in relation to what you’re wanting to resolve?  Perhaps there’s a ‘feelings’ essential oil blend to help in that area which could then pave the way for the other oil you’re choosing.

REMEMBER THE THREE KEY WAYS OF USING OILS

We can get into habits and routines very easily and forget to make the most of the many different ways of using oils daily to enhance every aspect of our lives and just choose, say, diffusing for instance as a way to use them.

All the ways of using oils come back to one of three methods or ‘schools’: English (inhalation), French (ingestion) and German (application).  Oils for the mind and spirit are beautifully suited to inhalation, whereas the physical responds to application, and adding oils to drink and food is a great way of getting them into the body when the label states you can do so.  Consider where and what you’re targeting and how to get the most effective union when it comes to feeling their benefits.  This is something your trusty essential oils reference / text book / encyclopedia can help you with, too.

DON’T RELY ON OILS TO DO EVERYTHING

If you’re not taking care of yourself as a whole in all areas, you’re placing a very heavy expectation on the power essential oils.  Much as they are awesome, they can’t compensate fully for ‘bad behaviour’ in everything else you’re doing.  We all need good sleep and enough of it, plenty of fresh, filtered, quality water and hydration, regular revitalising exercise, and it’s best to minimise caffeine and alcohol, too.

Eat nutritiously.  Cut the junk.  Supplement your diet as needed with supportive products like Young Living NingXia Red® daily supercharged juice drink, Young Living Mineral Essence™, Longevity™ softgels and Inner Defense™ capsules and – well, there are plenty of Young Living foods and supplements to cover just about all your needs.

It’s also imperative to remove the toxins from your environment wherever it’s in your power to do so: cleaning and laundry products, personal care products, fragrances and perfumes.  Young Living has beautiful, divine-smelling solutions in all of these areas.  All of them.

Limit the electromagnetic frequency exposure you’re getting to the best of your ability and diffusing regularly is a great way to help the quality of your general environment.  The more you look after yourself in all areas, the better the results you’ll get from using essential oils.

Essential oils are potent, so as always, please follow directions on the bottle and the usual guidelines for safe use of authentic essential oils.

Please ensure you are choosing a brand with complete transparency from seed to seal, such as Young Living.  You can learn in this short video why we only ever recommend and choose Young Living oils and love them so much!

We wish you the very best with your learning and essential oils journey.
