The skin saving properties of lavender and aloe vera are legendary, even if you’re a newbie to natural health.

For post-sun skin care and skin that’s been exposed to heat, both of these hydrating gems are well-loved.  Marry them up in one product – Young Living LavaDerm™ – and wow, what a combo.  I feel like this beautiful spray has an unlisted ingredient: magic!  It’s one of the quiet achievers in Young Living’s range that lots of people still don’t seem to know about, and we want to change that because it’s sensational.  But more on LavaDerm in a moment.  Let’s lay some groundwork first.

Aloe vera is pretty easy to keep on hand in a pot for emergencies and it’s a great idea.  Just pluck a leaf – you might want to trim off the spines on the leaves to make it easier to handle – then split it down the centre to maximise the surface area with all its gel-like goodness and pat over tender skin.

Unlike aloe vera, though, you can’t tap into the goodness of lavender for your skin by growing it in a pot and rubbing it on!  That’s where you need the essential oil of the plant – which is also known as the lifeblood of the plant – which captures the beautiful benefits so you can release them onto your skin.

Lavender essential oil is available everywhere you turn nowadays but sad to say, much of it is of inferior quality and not the real deal.  It’s one of the most ‘knocked off’ oils, with vastly greater quantities of lavender essential oil being sold worldwide than produced.  You don’t have to be a math genius to put two and two together and figure out that not all lavender being sold can be authentic and pure.

So what’s the non-genuine lavender made from and is it really any different from the good stuff?  Let’s take a quick squiz.

A lot of non-genuine lavender oil is synthetically produced.  Chemists are very clever at doing that well nowadays – so well that even people with experienced noses can find it hard to discern a synthetic oil from a genuine one.  But when you use them, you’ll start to discern the difference. If you’ve explored the field of vibrational medicine, you’ll already know there’s a world of difference between nature and synthetically-produced versions.  Check out our video on synthetics in depth in this post.

Other non-genuine lavender oils could be created from a combination of Lavandula angustifolia and lavandin, which is a different plant and does not have the same effects and benefits as true lavender (Lavandula angustifolia)Lavandin is produced more cheaply so it’s often used as a filler but beware that even if it’s a top quality lavandin, the end result simply will not have the benefits of true lavender.  And if the producer is engaging in that kind of deceptive behaviour, it’s highly improbable that either of the essential oils going into that bottle have been extracted from exquisite plant matter by steam distillation at the correct temperature and pressure for the optimal duration – all of which is essential for producing essential oil that really does work and doesn’t just smell pretty.

Other non-genuine lavender oils could be a combination of the above plus other fillers and extenders that can range into substances like propylene glycol, a known irritant.

I say all this not to be a scaremonger, but to keep hitting home the point that essential oil quality truly is vital – otherwise you might as well save your money altogether because you simply won’t get the benefits you think you’re getting.  The oil might have a pleasant effect on your mood just because it smells attractive and that in itself can be enjoyable and relaxing, but when you’re looking for the true benefits, they aren’t found in those kinds of oils.

Let’s now look at marrying aloe vera and lavender essential oil together, because in this case, you really can’t have too much of a good thing.  And that’s what Young Living does with its beautiful LavaDerm spray.

young-living-lavadermLavaDerm combines cooling aloe vera with the skin-loving properties of true lavender essential oil along with Northern Lights Black Spruce and helichrysum essential oils.  There’s also a blend of ionic trace minerals to further boost the effect.  And inhaling its delicate mist will restore your equilibrium, too!

Along with moisturising and cooling skin, keep LavaDerm in your purse or pocket when flying.  It feels beautiful and replenishing your skin when the air-conditioning on the plane is starting to leave you parched.  Its aroma is very gentle and uplifting so your fellow passengers will thank you, too!

How to Use Young Living LavaDerm?
