“Cry. Forgive. Learn. Move on. Let your tears water the seeds of your future happiness.” Steve Maraboli

(Companion oil: Young Living Release™)

It’s ironic that we often struggle hardest with letting go of something we’ve already lost.

A friend. A family member. A love. A dream.

The degree to which we loved what we lost affects the speed and ease with which we can let go of it. When it comes to the big losses, they take time. Your tears are way beyond watering seeds. You need an ark.

But there are the easier losses that come along. The seed watering ones. The ones you chose to make. The ones that were necessary for growth. The ones out of your control but not so profound as to shatter you. Positive losses if we can look at them that way.

We can exercise those kinds of ‘letting go muscles’ on something lighter like the art of decluttering. Thrift shop donations must surely be soaring to new heights around the world as we embrace Marie Kondo’s simple message to intentionally choose what remains in your life by asking, “Does it spark joy?”

Master this when it comes to your possessions and you’ll find yourself asking that very same question of everything in your life. “Does this spark joy?”

I’m wondering if it’s akin to asking ourselves if something is in alignment with our purpose. Scott Dinsmore’s TED talk on how to find the work you love (over 2.7 million views and still rising) incites us to discover our passions and live them, aka ‘live your legend’. Tragically, Scott passed away too young in a freak accident in 2015. But true to his essence, at the time of his passing, he was living his legend.

In his TED talk, Scott suggested we ask ourselves, “What is the one thing you can’t NOT do?” when helping to figure out our purpose.

If we’re still not sure, maybe we can approach it from the other direction and consider things we’re currently doing and ask, “Does this spark joy?” If the answer is No, look for the flip side of it and see what that tells you.

Are you’re hanging onto something that’s not working for you and you know you need to let it go?  Focus on what does spark joy in your life and how you’re making room for that by letting go. Keep your eyes on the joy.

Are you having to let go of something you didn’t want to lose? Observe the hurt you’re going through by not allowing yourself to release it. Consider the possibility that releasing the attachment to what you’ve lost will let go of the hurt and spark joy. Cry bucketloads if it makes you feel better, forgive, learn, move on and let your tears water the seeds of your future happiness.
