“Let go of the past and go for the future. Go confidently in the direction of your dreams. Live the life you imagined.” Henry David Thoreau

(Companion oil: Young Living Envision™)

It’s great that those ‘year in review’ features in the media are over and done with during the week between Christmas and New Year. By the time the last fireworks dazzle through the sky to celebrate the cracking open of a new calendar, we are well-ready to let go of the past 12 months and have great expectations of what lies ahead. Once the New Year arrives, instinctively we don’t want to dwell on the year that was. Onwards and upwards.

Our self-defeating behaviours and habits, on the other hand, might have other ideas. This is where today’s post comes in.

Along with the above quote by Thoreau, there’s another I really love in a similar vein.

‘The secret of change is to focus all of your energy, not on fighting the old, but on building the new.’ Socrates

What’s the first thing that came into your mind just then when you read that? Maybe a particular scenario that’s been going on for you — something you kind of know deep down you need to let go of and move on from, but you can’t seem to do it?

I was thinking about this and it dawned on me that fighting the old rather than building the new can come from a place of lack — be it staying in a job or relationship your heart is not in any more, or sustaining a habit you know doesn’t serve you well, or enduring circumstances that aren’t healthy for you in mind, body or spirit.

When you genuinely believe in infinite possibilities, and feel abundance is flowing easily in and around you, it’s easy to let go of the past. Fighting the old is something we do if we can’t see ourselves building the new. It’s a security blanket. It’s the devil you know. And ultimately it stems from some sense of lack rather than abundance.

Young Living has an oil blend especially formulated to foster or create an abundance state. (You can read more about that here.) When you start to believe there are more possibilities alive than you will ever get the chance to explore, letting go of the past, building the new and forging in the direction of your dreams becomes so much easier.

And when you add today’s companion oil Young Living Envision™ into the equation, it will help stimulate your creativity and resourcefulness — along with renewed faith in the future and emotional courage to overcome fear of moving forwards.

Envision™ includes essential oils of spruce (opens and releases emotional blocks and believed to possess the frequency of prosperity), orange (uplifting and calming), sage (used by the Lakota Indians for dispelling negative emotions) and rose (a magnet for love and joy).

It smells beautiful, so you can apply one or two drops on the edge of your ears, wrists and neck as your fragrance. You can also apply it to the soles of your feet and diffuse or inhale from the bottle, any time you feel like your ability to see possibilities is clouded, dampened or switched off altogether.

Create a quiet space free of interruptions for a period of time after you’ve applied Envision™ and let your imagination run free. Jot down all the ideas that give you butterflies (these are usually good things !) and make your heart happy. How would it make you feel to focus on building these as your ‘new’? It’s a great place to start.

Enjoy the good oil daily.
