“Grown-ups never understand anything for themselves, and it is tiresome for children to be always and forever explaining things to them.”  Saint-Exupéry

(Companion oil: Young Living Inner Child™)

De-cluttering is the flavour of the month right now. All the hip people are doing it. Heck, we’re not hip and we’ve advocated it ourselves! It’s liberating and allows us to focus more fully on the present moment and free up room for ‘now dreams’ and ‘new dreams’.

But if you’ve finished culling and are standing back surveying your handiwork, I do hope you kept a few of your favourite children’s books. Because there’s always a time and place for climbing between those covers and letting them remind you of what it’s like to look at life through your inner child’s eyes.

Today’s quote comes from the 3rd most-translated book in the world and one of the best-selling books ever published. If you didn’t take French at school and remain unexposed to one of the most captivating stories ever written, please put Le Petit Prince by Antoine de Saint-Exupéry at the top of your reading pile.

Yes, even ahead of The Essential Guide to De-cluttering, Paleo for Beginners and Beard Growing Explained. It’s that good.

Essentially, Le Petit Prince is philosophical. It’s a pint-sized children’s book by appearance with its sweet watercolour illustrations by the author — but it’s far from childish. Le Petit Prince is thought by some to be an allegory of Saint-Exupéry’s life, including his search for the certainties of childhood and inner peace, his belief in human courage, and his struggles with his deep but difficult relationship with his wife.

The book is filled with quote-gems like this one, bestowed by a fox on the little prince (who fell to earth from a tiny asteroid): “On ne voit bien qu’avec le cœur. L’essentiel est invisible pour les yeux.” (“One sees clearly only with the heart. What is essential is invisible to the eyes.”)

It’s a beautiful and profound quote in English and yet still sounds better in French!

If you’ve never used essential oils to enhance your reading experience, I’d love for you to start with this one. Young Living’s beautiful blend called Inner Child™ is a perfect match. Put a few drops in your diffuser and rub a little on the edges of your ears before you start. (Discover how important it is to diffuse your essential oils for a non-toxic home by clicking here.)
