“Everybody gets so much information all day long that they lose their common sense.” Gertrude Stein

(Companion oil: Young Living Common Sense™)

Some days, I’d give anything for the information highway to be a bucolic country laneway lined with beautifully bound Encyclopaedia Brittanica. Ah, the serenity.

By the time we finished our cup of tea, we would have some notes jotted down on the specific subject we set out to explore while our brains pondered what we were learning. Maybe, if time allowed before going for a pre-dinner stroll or pruning the hibiscus tree, we would leaf through another volume to look up something that took our fancy or sparked our curiosity while reading about our first targeted nugget of wisdom. The only trail of breadcrumbs we would be following would be those left by our Iced VoVos instead of links leading us into a vortex from which we would crawl hours later, dazed and suffering from short term memory loss.

Good times!

I love learning and information but maybe there’s something in today’s quote. Back in the day, if a problem arose, we didn’t reach for our phones to seek an expert’s advice, check a forum or throw the question out to our Facebook friends. We used our common sense and Macgyvered up our best crack at a solution. It might not have always worked, but it kept our problem-solving and practical savvy muscles in shape.

And there’s a lot of satisfaction in that.

Now, some are more naturally more gifted in common sense than others, as with anything in life. If you have a sneaking feeling you were standing behind the door when it was being given out, or you know your common sense isn’t what it used to be, there’s an essential oil blend you can use to help hone your decision-making and everyday problem solving.

Young Living Common Sense™ was formulated especially for what it says. When it was first released, I thought, “Seriously?! You can get common sense in a bottle now? Pull the other one, it plays jingle bells!” But knowing how effective Young Living oils are, I added it to my collection. And while I pride myself on having good horse sense, if I’m a bit weary and have a lot on my plate to get done, I’ll put Common Sense™ in the diffuser and rub a smidge behind my ears to help things along. Works a treat.

  • ocotea (high in alpha-humulene, balancing to the ‘fight or flight’ response)
  • goldenrod (its botanical name Solidago canadensis comes from the Latin for ‘to make whole’)

Essential oils are potent, so as always, please follow directions on the bottle and the usual guidelines for safe use of authentic essential oils. And guess what? When it comes to using essential oils, common sense stands you in good stead.
