I was going to use ‘if life gives you lemons, make lemonade’ as a quote to start today’s post but it’s so overdone, I won’t. (And I think I’ve already used it on a previous post about lemons. I rest my case.)

Another option if life gives you lemons is to make lemon oil, though you’ll need quite a few! You can read its impressive list of attributes over here.  But as for a quote, let’s try this one instead:

“We live in a world where lemonade is made from artificial flavoring and furniture polish is made from real lemons.” MAD Magazine

Actually, we can help you take care of both of those products naturally.  Just as we gave you our top 9 tips for ‘the universal oil’ —lavender — here is a list of our top 9 tips for the next staple oil in your arsenal.  These are both included in the Young Living Everyday Oils Collection, a great kit to cover pretty much any contingency you can imagine, and the rest of our top 9 tips for these ‘everyday oils’ are gathered here).

When using these tips, please bear in mind the usual guidelines for safe use of authentic essential oils.

  1. Furniture polish (combine 10 drops of lemon oil, two tablespoons of lemon juice and a few drops of olive oil — multiply to make a larger mixture and store in an airtight glass jar)
  2. Cleaner/air freshener (put half a dozen or more drops in a spray bottle of water to clean bench tops, and spritz the air throughout your home whenever it — and you — could do with a cheer up)
  3. Hand purifier (rub a drop into your fingers and hands whenever they need a freshen, or when you want an extra boost after washing your hands with soap and water.  Hello, public rest rooms)
  4. Fatty/greasy stain removal (apply 1-2 drops directly onto oil, grease and gum spots, and worth trying if the kids have been adventurous with crayons in all the wrong places)
  5. Unsightly veins (smooth a few drops directly onto the location)
  6. Dimpled areas (massage several drops into those pesky areas in a clockwise motion daily to help circulation and waste elimination  — dilute if desired with V-6 Vegetable Oil or any organic carrier oil like olive or coconut)
  7. Scurvy repellent for your away-from-home teenagers (this might be tongue-in-cheek but encourage them to add a drop of lemon in their water bottle at all times. It could encourage them to drink more H2O, helps cleanse and boost their system if they are skipping fresh fruit, and will make that bottle cleaner than it otherwise might be!)
  8. Give longer life to fresh fruit (wash as you usually would, then swirl well in a bowl of water with a few drops of lemon oil — some could take on a little lemon flavour, so experiment to be sure it suits your taste)
  9. Lemonade (add 2 drops lemon oil and 2 tbsp honey/agave to 2 cups of purified water for a naturally refreshing and hydrating drink on those long summer days; and the hot water version of this is a great tummy kick starter every single day)

* IMPORTANT CAUTION: Young Living essential oils are the only ones we would ever consider for ingestion. And only those which state on the bottle they can be used that way. Why? Because Young Living sets the standard for purity and authenticity – essential to the safe ingestion of essential oils appropriate for such use. Young Living carefully monitors the production of its oils from beginning to end through its unique Seed to Seal® process, ensuring the purity of each essential oil and protecting nature’s living energy in every bottle.
