Yesterday’s talk of the hairy humble coconut might have hit a bit close to home when I looked in the mirror last night.  Uh-oh.

Week 12 of winter and my hair has been taxed lately, courtesy of me being extra-busy over the past couple of weeks and the extra-dry weather we’ve had here.  (Maybe you’re in the same boat.)

For some quick natural fixes to hair styling, something here could do the trick.

And if you’d like to join me in brushing up on which essential oils, foods and natural supplements make for lustrous, healthy hair, let’s get started.

Sulphur

Sometimes called ‘the beauty mineral’, sulphur is found in keratin, essential for healthy skin, hair and nails.

Not only is it awesome for keeping up appearances, but it does quite sensational work on the inside, too, like helping to regulate the body’s pH balance.

Food sources include peanuts, eggs, scallops, lobster, prawns and kidneys.

If you’re not eating those foods plentifully, head for the MSM (methylsulfonylmethane — try saying that with a fuzzy head), a powerful wellbeing-boosting source of organic sulphur.  And a valuable building block for strong bones, joints, teeth and nails.

Young Living Product Tip: Sulfurzyme®.  Combines MSM with wolfberry to support assimilation and metabolism of sulphur.

Zinc

Zinc is a mineral component of enzymes that facilitate growth and repair of skin, hair and nails. Grabbing a handful of pumpkin and sunflower seeds every day is an easy way to top it up. Other good food sources are alfalfa, parsley, sage, oysters, crab, calf liver, wheatgerm and dairy.

Omega-3

Especially good for combating dry, brittle hair, omega-3 is an essential fatty acid found in flaxseeds, walnuts and oily fish like salmon, tuna, mackerel, sardines and anchovies. (Could be a good reason to order an organic wood-fired pizza for dinner.)

Young Living Product Tip: OmegaGize³™.  Combines omega 3 fatty acids, vitamin D-3, and CoQ10 (ubiquinone).

B complex vitamins and beta-carotene

Vitamin B complex including biotin and folate are excellent for overall hair health. And when coupled with beta-carotene, they help your hair to really shine. The easy way to choose beta-carotene is to add plenty of orange fruit and vegetables to your day, together with spinach, silverbeet and broccoli.

As for nourishing and protecting healthy hair with what you choose to put onto it, that merits a post of its own. Ironically, the humble coconut will be part of the solution — and in the meanwhile, you can read about its other benefits here.

Enjoy the good oil daily.
