Do you want the essential oils you choose to be created by an innovator?  From someone driven with passion who never rests with the status quo, who is always seeking and wanting to discover?  I know I do, and it’s yet another reason why I love and choose Young Living Essential Oils.

For a long, long time, there was a particular plant growing wild in Ecuador that was thought of as a weed. According to the Oxford Dictionary, a weed is “a wild plant growing where it is not wanted and in competition with cultivated plants.” While locals understood its value as a folk remedy, it was nonetheless considered to be a weed.

But in the mid-2000s, Young Living Founder D Gary Young started exploring the rich life of botanicals in Ecuador.  The Finca Botanica Farm grew out of a passion project tapping into the rich soils of tropical Guayaquil.  And ever curious, never satisfied with taking things at face value, Gary Young took this weed and distilled it in their new state-of –the-art distillery there.

Analysis for the very first known time in this plant’s history revealed Dorado Azul’s essential oil to be beautiful, with great potential for use in sports massage for post-workout relaxation and comfort among other benefits.

Including alpha-fenchol, beta-pinene and 1,8-Cineole (Eucalyptol) amongst its constituents, this weed was given its botanical name at last – Hyptis suaveolens – and was categorised into the botanical family of Lamiaceae.  This family includes a long roll call of fabulous essential oils such as basil, clary sage, hyssop and lavender.

Dorado Azul is steam distilled and the essential oil is red in colour.  Available exclusively through Young Living, it can be used as a single oil and is awesome diffused in the cooler months when we more typically need extra protection for our chests.  (There’s a reason why French people love scarves so much.  It’s not just a fashion statement.  They firmly believe keeping their throats and chest protected and warm is essential for warding off ‘la grippe’, aka the dreaded flu.)

If the term ‘diffusing’ is new to you, please head over to our articles on the Hows and Whys of diffusing so you can discover why it’s imperative to diffuse oils to protect their delicate molecules instead of putting them into a damaging burner.

You can also put Dorado Azul in a humidifier, or use a tenting technique for a more intense aromatic experience.  It’s also one of the ingredients in Young Living ImmuPower™ which is a highly effective and handy oil blend to keep in the house at times of increased susceptibility.

Getting onto the more active and physical side of things, you can use Dorado Azul to mix your own massage oil blend as a sports rub.

Simply pour into an appropriate bottle a high quality carrier oil like Young Living V6 Enhanced Vegetable Oil Complex as a base, and add Dorado Azul along with other comforting ‘workout’ singles like basil, lavender, peppermint and marjoram.  You’ll need to play with quantities.  Start with say 3 drops of each single oil into a 100mL of carrier oil, test and increase as desired to suit the intensity that feels good for you.

Personally, I love using the ready-mixed products, as I’m usually in a hurry and I know the experts have created something targeted to these needs.  Dorado Azul is included as an ingredient in Young Living Cool Azul™ gel and Deep Relief Roll-on, and both will more than earn their place in your gym bag, guaranteed!

In what might seem to be a quirky change of pace, Dorado Azul is also included in Young Living’s essential oil blend named Common Sense™. Yes, there really is an oil for that – though giving a bottle to someone might be right up there in tactlessness along with gifting deodorant.

But if you feel like your own common sense goes AWOL at times, then I thoroughly recommend inhaling this blend any time you’re about to tax that part of your brain.  I wonder if diffusing Common Sense™ around all Red Tape Dispensers would make for some much more sensible decision making than we have nowadays.

Essential oils are potent, so as always, please follow directions on the bottle and the usual guidelines for safe use of authentic essential oils.

Not all oils are created equal.  Far from it.  Quality varies immensely, so please ensure you are choosing a brand with complete transparency from seed to seal, such as Young Living.  Discover why we love them so much in this short video.
